Per NFPA 17A section 7.2 an owner's inspection is required for a wet chemical extinguishing system. I'm currently in the process of making a checklist for those systems at my site.
7.2.1 On a monthly basis, inspection shall be conducted in accordance with the manufacturer’s listed installation and maintenance manual or the owner’s manual. However, how often does the "outside world" comply with this requirement? I know at the previous site I worked at, we admittedly did not. Also, what are the tamper indicators and seals referred to in paragraph 7.2.2? 7.2.2 At a minimum, this “quick check” or inspection shall include verification of the following: ... (3) The tamper indicators and seals are intact. Not quite sure I know what NFPA is referring to there. Thanks in advance for all responses! Posted anonymously for discussion. The tamper indicators on most systems are the up listed flag seals such as on a hand held fire extinguisher. There may be tamper indicators on each of the control heads as well as the remote manual pull. These all vary depending on the manufacturer of each suppression system. Each one will have its own requirements to align with the referenced code.

Generally, I refer to a seal as a tamper indacting label where it's evident it's been ripped or a stranded wire with a compressed soft metal seal that does not allow the wire to be removed or opened without damaging the seal.

As a Campus Fire Marshal we had a hospital at our facility and random audits by state fire marshal so we made the quick checks part of our monthly inspections. In addition, CMS and the Joint Commission also looked at these monthly inspection documents. Also, there are other NFPA "quick checks" such as NFPA 96 and NFPA 418 we performed as well.
