This K-Factor Selector helps pick a sprinkler k-factor that balances two competing goals: minimizing the required pressure at the most demanding sprinkler and minimizing total flow (which drives pipe sizing and pump demand). Set a design density and a coverage area per sprinkler; the table computes pressures and flows across common k-factors so you can see the trade-offs quickly.

Use: This tool is most commonly used when selecting the best sprinkler for a hazard or area. Oftentimes, just a small tweak between nearby k-factor (K-5.6 and K-8.0) can result in notable pressure and flow savings, which can have a big impact on tightly-designed jobs.
