Our first Daily question of the day that includes a photo. Here goes -
I was surveying/inspecting a facility and came across a riser component that I am not familiar with, at least in the way this one appears. The riser room is located in a basement, and the white drain goes to a sump, then is connected to drain pipe. I have never seen this arrangement before. The question is what is the stainless steel hose going to that says “spring loaded”? ...one of these days I gotta find time to hang out with a sprinkler contractor or FPE….

Hard to see clearly in the image, but to me that looks like the relief valve for a RPZ type backflow device. The stainless hose would be the sensing line. The check valves inside are spring loaded and labeled as such in order to make sure parts don't go flying if you disassemble it.

It could be some kind of ‘in house’ pressure relief valve installed downstream the ACV of the sprinkler system.

I agree with Mr. Howell – Looks like a Zurn/Wilkins 475 RP

I found this blog post very informative and well-written. The section on the function of spring-loaded riser components was especially interesting to me, as I didn't realize the importance of these components in fire protection systems. It's great to learn about the various components that work together to ensure the safety of buildings and their occupants. Thanks for sharing this valuable information!
