I have a project for a Cast and Forging plant, which requires a "double interlock sprinkler system per NFPA 13". That's the first I've heard of a "double interlock sprinkler system".
My question is do I have to use a deluge valve or would this be an alarm check valve? Would nozzles be open or closed? Many questions, thanks. Sent in anonymously for discussion. Click Title to View | Submit Your Question | Subscribe

Not sure what you're referring to as "nozzles". I'll presume your mean sprinkles. Sprinklers are closed as part of the double interlock requires a sprinkler fusing.

To clarify, valve should be electric / electric or electric / pneumatic

Double Interlock would be something like the Tyco DV-5 valve with the required trim, be it Electric/Electric or Electric/Pneumatic which ever detection type is required (Preaction System). The sprinklers would be regular wet system sprinklers, NOT open Deluge type or Nozzles.

The above responses all assume that the requirement is for a "Double-Interlocked Preaction Sprinkler System. You can have a "Double-Interlocked Deluge System. Submit and RFI to get this clarified. The RFI should also include the means of actuating the system.

Good point, Glenn. My mind didn’t even cross that road.
