Recommendations with FM-200 Phase-Out?

Given the HFC (hydrofluorocarbon) production phase-out, what are you currently recommending to your clients and customers regarding the installation of new FM-200 systems at this time?

Just curious to get a status check on how you approach this challenge. Thanks in advance.

We're currently resorting to NOVEC 1230 (FK 5-1-12) for clean agent suppression systems.

Inergen (or other inert gases) require too much real estate for all the required tanks.

Most of our Data Center clients don't want to hear the words "water mist" in relation to their server areas..

My company has also gone the route of NOVEC 1230 for most clean agent installs. As the price continues to creep up, we have had some success with alternates when space, power, or expansion needs have been brought to the table early.

Echo the responses above, we’ve gone towards NOVEC 1230.

The prices are getting out of control though, have the client sit down when discussing the system!

NOVEC 1230 for most clients, some are willing to go Water Mist.

Novec 1230 seems to be a comparable alternative.

Novec 1230 seems to be the most popular choice. Viking sells them by way of 3M (Or 3M sells them by way of Viking, however you want to phrase it).

They call it VSH1230 Clean Agent System. They have a webinar you can access on their site.

3M makes the Novec 1230 agent and sells to multiple OEM's. Ansul, Kidde, Janus, Viking, Sevo etc. In NFPA 2001 Novec 1230 is FK-5-1-12. . No GWP and around five day atmospheric lifetime.
Typical Class A or under 480 volt Class C design concentration is 4.5% and NOAEL of 10% so high personnel safety margin.
Ansul brand name is Sapphire..

Sapphire is being requested by facilities people, I think Ansul is doing a good job of marketing to end users.

Well, Sapphire is certainly easier for lay persons to remember than NOVEC 1230.

Does the 1230 even refer to anything structure-wise (like the Halon naming conventions) or is just arbitrary like WD-40?

3M will announce a phase out plan for NOVEC 1230 shortly. Start looking for another alternative.

Hey there, Donald with Yuji here. 3M announced that they're phasing out their Novec products in December of 2022 and due to this reason, many businesses are looking for Novec equivalents or next generation alternatives.

and then PFAS regulation arriving and 3M is discontinuing production of Novatec 1230...
