Have a kitchen exhaust "ecological unit" which filters oil, grease, dust particles, and smoke odor from a kitchen hood exhaust system.
Are there requirements for how to be protect the unit? I'm not sure whether sprinklers would be required within the unit as I'm unfamiliar with these. Any guidance or tips from those who've worked with these before would be appreciated. Posted anonymously for discussion. Discuss This | Submit Your Question | Subscribe

My past company had installed some kitchen ventilation systems. We spec'd a system that used an integrated fire protection system for the hood. Not sure what type of system you have. Here is a link:

Pollution control units, or PCU's, are still quite new.

NFPA 96. I have seen UL 300 wet chemical systems protect this equipment. The manufacturers like Ansul or Kidde would need to be consulted for proper application, design and installation.

Kitchen hood fire protection systems can be used in this case. This system will protect both kitchen hood and kitchen equipments from major fire hazards. Systems using fusible.link detection method and heat sensor tube are available in market. This system is designed as per NFPA 96 and LPS 1223 standards.
