What is maximum distance above a ceiling before concealed-space sprinklers have to be installed?
I can't find the code reference, but seems like there was a 3-foot maximum if it was non-combustible with insulation on the pipe? Sent in anonymously for discussion. Click Title to View | Submit Your Question | Subscribe

NFPA 13 does not have a stated minimum distance between the ceiling and the structure for the determination of where sprinklers would be required.

The 36" trigger is more related to the concealed sprinkler listings and/or requirements but many of those allow up to 60" deep when I've looked through the latest data sheets.

There is no 3-ft exclusion in 13 that I'm aware of. There are however a lot of good information in NFPA 13 8.15.1.

Any space that is non occupied has no storage or low fire load and build with non combustion construction is allowed to be omitted from sprinkler protection.

non-combustible concealed spaces typically do not require sprinkler protection
