For the acceptance testing of a dry pipe sprinkler system, is a 24-hour 40 psi pneumatic test required, or will the 200 psi hydrostatic test alone suffice?

Yes the 24 hr pneumatic test is non optional for dry and pre-action systems.

Nope, you'll need both (References to 2022 NFPA 13). Don't forget the FDC piping as well per 29.2.1.8. Actually, the air test is an alternate to the hydrostatic test in areas as a temp method until the hydrostatic test can be completed.

As others have mentioned, both tests are required for system acceptance.

First hand experience...air will find leaks water doesn't, particularly on threaded joints.

Yep, both are required. In my area, some AHJs overlook the air test and only want to do the hydro.
