Hazard Category for Yoga/Fitness Studio?

In your opinion/experience what is the most appropriate fire sprinkler hazard category for a yoga/fitness studio? 

When the studio is mostly an open space for active classes the hazard could be limited to the floor mat pads, while my concern would be potential vertical storage of the usually foam-filled pads. Have you come across this before?

Most of the time I would call that business light hazard for general yoga areas. If they have a designated storage area for foam pads, rollers, and matts I would probably do Ordinary Hazard Group 1 or 2 pending on sizes, quantities, heights. Best to question the storage quantities and storage concepts with the owner to better evaluate the hazard type. Also be warry of "hot" yoga studies, may want to consider intermediate temperature heads in rooms where this may take place. Maybe corrosive resistant coatings if they plan to introduce steam.

If they're storing yoga mats, chances are they are expanded group A plastic on shelving up to 12'-0". Most places don't do that though; sharing yoga mats is a health liability, and they would have to be thoroughly sanitized between uses. Usually people bring their own mats, and the instructors may have a place to store their personal mats. That would probably not be enough quantity to qualify for a plastic storage occupancy. The studio by itself is a Light Hazard.

I have encountered TI conversions of office space to hot yoga rooms. Check the heater data sheets. Typically, the ceramic will have a surface temp of 425°F designed to create an environment below of 100° to 105°F at floor level. Ordinary heads are limited to 100°F at ceiling level. I use NFPA 13 Automatic Sprinklers Handbook, A.8.3.2.5(1), "Areas used for hot yoga facilities, steam rooms, saunas, indoor areas containing hot tubs, and similar heated areas should be evaluated to determine the potential maximum ambient temperature before selection of sprinkler temperature rating to be installed in the space." Invariably the swap out the ordinary for intermediate every time.

Best to scrutinize the capacity amounts and capacity ideas with the proprietor to all the more likely assess the peril type. Likewise, be warry of hot yoga examines, might need to consider moderate temperature heads in rooms where this may occur. Possibly destructive safe coatings in the event that they intend to present steam.
