A fire marshal is requesting a wall hydrant on the backside of a project where there is limited access. Is there a prescriptive flow that needs to be calculated at this location?
This project is considered a high-rise (8 stories) and does have a fire pump. He has already requested there be 100 psi available at the wall hydrant. Posted anonymously by a member for discussion. Discuss this | Subscribe

Probably 500 GPM as the most remote standpipe or 250 GPM which is the next lower. If AHJ gave the 100 psi minimum, I'd ask for the flow too.

Refer to NFPA 14 - 7.10.1.1 for flow rates. It depends on the class of the standpipe and number of standpipes,

Is a wall hydrant subject to the same flow and pressure requirements as a standpipe hose connection though?

Per NFPA 14 - 7.10.2: you only need to flow 250 GPM at the most remote hose valve.
