Chrome provides slightly more corrosion resistance than brass. Brass can turn green when subjected to moisture from oxidation. Viking has a technical data sheet somewhere that has a corrosion resistance chart for their sprinklers which is handy. Pricing may vary slightly for specific valves, but not for sprinklers as chrome sprinklers are fairly common. Many times when specified by the the architect it's a personal preference of look for the building.

Pretty much only customer specification. It is very rainy here, but we put brass in all of the time, and I've never had a comment about it turning green. It never snows either though, so we rarely have salt on the streets.

Consider theft for exterior features as well, unfortunately. AHJ in a New England city, we routinely find brass FDCs vandalized.
