Can you use CPVC tor running pipe to an FDC out to a wall?

My question is specifically asking is it allowed to be used after the check valve, where it won’t be filled with water?

Just wondering about the plastic becoming brittle. The CPVC will be transitioned to steel 2-inches before a steel 90-elbow out the wall.

Technically, yes as long as it's installed per MFG requirements however I would confirm with your local MFG rep (probably get a "not recommended" response).

You're going to run into some issues with sealing the penetration (compatibility), a buried transition piece within that sealed area (service), and the cost vs just running steel without have to provide the additional fittings (you don't state size but it just gets more expensive the larger it gets).

We've done it before on 13R systems in small buildings that only have a 2" riser and a single 2.5" FDC. It can save a lot of material and labor cost if you are faced with getting the piping through congested wood framing, especially if you need to get around multiple interior corners that can sometimes be barely accessible.

We will generally transition from steel to plastic at the FDC inlet using a groove adapter after elbowing the steel pipe through a single framing stud so if anyone ever tries to unscrew the FDC from the exterior no torque gets applied to the plastic piping.

Make sure you have the pipe arranged so water can easily drain to the ball drip. Also make sure you are following the MFG specs and NFPA rules for installing exposed CPVC piping if you don't transition back to steel before exiting the framing assembly at the sprinkler riser

Don't forget to do your hydrostatic test on the piping assembly before it gets buried!

Yeah you can with the caveat being to ensure its installed its listing and the manufacturer's requirements.

Hi,

As others have mentioned, yes, there is nothing in the code that states otherwise. You simply need to confirm you install the piping within its limits following the manufacture requirements.
