You are hanging pipe and you need to install a trapeze hanger on a retrofit project (no seismic requirements).
One joist/beam is above and the 2nd is on the other side of a full height wall. Can you penetrate that wall, with your trapeze, to hang off the other beam? Posted anonymously for discussion. Discuss This | Submit Your Question | Subscribe

Interesting question when you think about it. I don't see why not as long a few factors are kept in mind; project specifications don't prohibit penetrations (i.e. foreign materials penetrating from a non-secure room to a secure room), you maintain any rated penetration requirements, and the load of the sprinkler piping is supported by the trapeze member and the structure and not the wall itself. This is just off-the-cuff thinking on my part.

Yes. Just seal the penetration correctly for the wall in question.

I've done this several times without issue. Even through rated wall, I just have the fab shop weld caps onto each end of the pipe along with the ATR piece and just fire caulk the penetration.
