OBJECTIVES
In this series, we will explore fundamentals of describing and determining Occupant Loads.

What are Occupant Loads? What do they impact? How do we calculate Occupant Loads in the IBC and NFPA 101? We'll explore this and more with plenty of practice in this 3-hour series.

Our objectives include:
  • Identify what an Occupant Load and Occupant Load Factor are, and what relevance they have for building design.
  • Understand conceptually how different Occupant Load Factors function.
  • Be able to calculate Occupant Loads across a variety of different space and building types, working our way to complete building occupant load calculations.

STEP 2: MODULES
In order to get continuing education credit, each page must be read and video must be viewed. The review exam will not be available until each video is viewed. Click each link below, in order, to view the module and gather other helpful tools & tips:

  1. What is an "Occupant Load?"
  2. How to determine an Occupant Load?
  3. What is an "Occupant Load Factor"?
  4. What does Occupant Load Affect?
  5. Exercise: Occupant Load Visualization (IBC)
  6. Exercise: Occupant Load Visualization (NFPA 101)
  7. Using and understanding Occupant Load Tags
  8. Exercise: Occupant Loads by Space
  9. Steps to calculate an occupant load
  10. Exercise: Grouping Spaces
