Every attempt is made for accuracy in every portion of the guide.
It pains me to find mistakes, but I post them here in an effort for complete clarity and most importantly to aid in better exam prep. All of these updates are shown below for your aid in preparing for the exam and are also incorporated in future editions of the Prep Guide. We hope you find this helpful.
8th Edition PE Prep Guide Errata:
Problem 11 (p126): Solution should reference Section 28.1.3, not 27.1.3.
Problem 12 (p127): Problem should include "burning area of 2.9 square meters and an effective diameter of 1.92 meters." in the problem statement.
Problem 14 (p132): Solution only references NCEES 3.6.17, but should reference NCEES 3.6.17 and 3.6.18 as the solution uses a combination of these two.
Problem 21 (p128): Solution should use z_L as 8.0 ft and Q_c should be 0.70.
Problem 49 (p179): Solution calculates 55 minutes, but problem states 65 minutes. Under Give/Assumed: replace “t” with 65 minutes, for Total Discharge of Foam Concentrate: equation should read “=(3.39)x(65)”, and Answer becomes 220.35 or 220 gal.
Problem 70 (p215): Given pressure exceeds limit for the equations cited. Revise given maximum pressure to 1.2 psi.
A. 75 sqft, B. 45 sqft, C. 82 sqft, D. 174 sqft (Correct answer D)
Problem 73 (p218): Problem 73 (P 218): Resulting pressure invalidates equations used in solution. Revise width of vent opening to 8 ft x 4 ft.
A. 1.14 psi, B. 1.31 psi, C. 5.2 psi, D. 15 psi (Correct answer B)
Problems 89-91 (p233-234): Problems should reference NFPA 101 Table 7.3.1.2 as the supplied reference.
Problem 132 (p307): Replace "minimum emergency lighting level" with "minimum illumination level". The question suggests that the power is out, but the intent is to be a question about normal performance.
Problem 183 (p365): The units on multiple-choice answers should be changed to ft^3/s.
