We are providing sprinkler protecting inside a spray/paint booth and its associated exhaust ducts.

I would put the protective covering on the heads inside the duct.

Yeah and the heads need to be accessible so access hatches, they get forgotten.

The easy answer to your question is yes, provide the same level of protection to the sprinkler inside the exhaust as provided in the spray booth itself.

Yep indeed. Plan on providing the same means to protect the sprinkler(s) in the duct as you do in the booth.
