Is a pull station required?
According to NFPA 72 (2019 Edition) § 23.8.5.1.2*, when connected to a supervising station, fire alarm systems employing automatic fire detectors or waterflow detection devices shall include a manual fire alarm box to initiate a signal to the supervising station. That said, for a non-sprinklered building, does the fire alarm control panel require a pull station near it/within the same room, or do adjacent exterior exit-door pull stations suffice? NFPA 72 Section 17.17.10.4 requires the pull station to be located within 5 feet of each exit doorway on each floor.

The requirements for MANUAL FIRE ALARM BOX(ES) are per the scoping Code (e.g. IBC-2024) per Chapter 9 Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems, Section 907 Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, 907.2 Where Required—New Buildings and Structures.

The pull station required in a fully sprinklered or smoke detected building (not requiring P/Ss throughout) is meant to facilitate alarm testing. In a building which requires P/Ss throughout, the intent is to use one of them for testing purposes. None would be required at the FACP unless it is mounted adjacent to an exit door which would normally require a P/S.
