What is considered "too loose" for a diesel fire pump exhaust? I'm referring to the vertical section just above the flex of the engine. NFPA just says that you have to secure and shall refer to the manufacturer's instructions, so in this case, it's a Clarke. Thanks in advance. Video is below. Sent in anonymously for discussion. Once I see supports for the exhaust pipe and the presence of the flex connector, which can provide movement, then I would not provide additional comments.

Braced and has a flexible connection to the hard connection on the driver.

Looks like you have Earthquake bracing on the sprinklers as well, which means that some flexibility is necessary between the engine and the exhaust to avoid possible pipe breakage.

The axial rotation of the muffler and exhaust pipe out the exterior wall is amplified a bit due to the length of the down piece and connection to the pump. Between the pump startup and general running vibrations & thermal expansion, the movement shown isn't excessive in my opinion. The connection looks to be straight (from the first view and the side view in the video) so the exhaust flex isn't acting to realign the two centerlines. It is well supported from above, including the bracing/restraint (not sure which) at the first ell. Even using rough math, the drop assumed to be about 5', a 1" +/- of movement from below is only about 1°+/- of movement which is well within a flex connections range of motion.

The flex unit is doing its job. As long as the pipe out the building is sealed at the penetration and you have no exhaust leaks you'll be compliant. Ensure the seal and penetration can withstand exhaust temperatures.

This facility appears to be located within an EQ zone, which is good to note. The exhaust pipe is not loose; it has the necessary flexibility (thanks for movie). Overall, I would give the engineering a solid A+.
