Amazon is selling fire sprinklers, escutcheons, and sprinkler guards. Some are UL Listed. But many are not listed for use together.
Because of the strict code requirements for installation and testing, is this appropriate marketing? Who is liable for improper installation and system component failure? Who approves this? Posted anonymously for discussion. Discuss This | Submit Your Question | Subscribe

Proper installation of approved components should be handled by the installing contractor. You can have an approved submittal and an approved inspection of the system and still have components that are incorrect. The installation should always be per the Building Code and Fire Code. It really isn't on the supplier to supply products per a standard if they are not claiming it to meet certain standards. There are many manufacturers that sell escutcheons and head guards which are not listed with the sprinkler head. It is the installers responsibility to provide a finished product that meets code. This is why it is important, when talking about life safety, to get a reputable sprinkler contractor.

AHJ and engineer of record are responsible for reviewing the material submittal from the sprinkler contractor. Contractor is responsible for using only those materials that have been submitted.

From a design-build perspective, my company prides itself with providing customers with quality work and equipment. Part of this relies on us (as a company) having very good relationships with reputable vendors and manufacturers that will stand behind their products should flaws or defects come to light that could compromise the reliability of the equipment. Having done a quick Amazon search for fire sprinklers, I don't think I would ever submit or sell to one of my customers sprinkler heads from the three main manufacturers I saw in the search results...
