Yep, no issues as long as the deflector stays within its min/max distances.

Dan nailed the issue. Location of the deflector with respect to the ceiling or roof as applicable.

As Dan mentioned, no issues as long as you stay within the requirements outlined in NFPA 13 (2019) Chapter 14 Installation Requirements for Early Suppression Fast-Response Sprinklers.

As others have said, no issue other than deflector distance. We had a job many moons ago, where it made more sense to use 4" branch lines and ESFRs than a fire pump. Basically it was an existing building, with multiple lead-ins that were technically each coming off of a semi-public water main (one of those installed back before public vs private demarcation was really worried about). Long story short, 4" branches with ESFRs had to be used. Due to some sagging structure and wind bracing we had to really jam the pipe up tight to get the deflector distance correct. Not as bad as the old days of sch. 40 6" and 8", but it was a draining install for the guys in the field.

Yep. Just make sure the deflector is within the minimum and maximum distances required by its listing.

Is this possibly a typo and you were asking about an Upright and not a Pendent? With an Upright your answer is no.
