Different CPVC Manufacturers for Same System?

Can one type of CPVC (FlameGuard) be connected to an existing but different CPVC manufacturer (BlazeMaster), or vice versa?

Are the solvent cements compatible?

Would I actively combine cans of solvent, no. I would also minimize, as much as possible, one solvent type from one MFG being used on the fittings/pipe of another. The MFG's are likely going to say no and stay with the originally installed MFG type to avoid compatibility issues in general.

We really have had no issues with working on existing CPVC and/or hybrid systems using different CPVC manufacturers provide all of the installation specific requirements from the MFG we are installing are followed.

Considering the progression of compatible and incompatible products through the years from both sides, I would think that this would be the least of the trouble spots on a system. Much like steel, we have worked on CPVC systems in service for 30+ years with no issues and others showing issues within months.

I am assuming that you need to make a modification to an existing sprinkler system. As such, I do not see where you are mixing or combining solvents.

My answer to your question is yes - you can utilize a different mfg of CPVC piping when making modifications to an existing system.

Ask the sales rep for either, but last I checked: yes, you can mix Flameguard and Blazemaster on a system/Add Blazemaster to an existing Flameguard system or Add Flameguard to an existing Blazemaster system (ask the sales rep about it that way, as Dan pointed out, they may say no to the idea of mixing on a new system).

Don't mix the solvents wherever possible.

If it results in leaks, use both of their "to steel" connections to bridge them over the formerly leaky connection.

An up-to-date list of UL listed CPVC manufacturers and brands can be found using the Product iQ search engine on www.ul.com. It is important to note that even if a product is listed, specific approvals may vary across brands and it is the responsibility of the installer to verify the suitability of products used according the manufacturer’s installation guide, which is also a part of a product’s listing.

They all need to follow ASTM F442.
